I am descended from many a Hartshornean (or whatever the correct term is)! I am researching my maternal grandmother's family. She was called Martha Brooks. Her grandfather was William Brooks born in Wooden Box (later Woodville) Hartshorne, 1841 and her grandmother was Mary Bostock born down the road in Moira in 1842. I have quite an extensive family tree now, going back to the 1750s, encompassing a lot of Brooks (sometimes spelt Brookes) and Bostocks, the occasional Toon and some interesting sounding Leedhams. Most of them are potters, but a few worked in the brickyards (including the young girls) and down the mines. If anyone out there thinks they are related please get in touch.

Born and raised in Hartshorne. Left at 16 and after travelling the world settled in Cornwall. My heart belongs to Cornwall but my soul to Hartshorne. Nice to see that there is plenty of spirit and drive within the village.

I am researching my family history and came across a possible relative who was, according to the 1901 census, Rector of Hartshorne. His name was Frederick A Carden, his children were Frederick B and William and his wife; Norah S. Husband and wife were born in India, the older son in Australia and William in Derbyshire.
Can anyone furnish any further details?

At that time he had a wife, Norah, born in the East Indies, a son Frederick B, born in Australia and another,William, born in the parish. Can anybody provide more details on this family?

Managed to bring my boys down last summer for a wander round the village, and wasn't really surprised there weren't or certainly didn't seem to be any Hartshorne's in the village any more.. Nice Church,

A really informative site - thanks!
My father brought me to the village when I was a little girl to point out to me 'Orme's Row' - long re-named, but found in an early census. I'm interested in the names Orme, Glover, Thorpe and Holmes; ancesters in Hartshorne were shop-keepers, wheelwrights and farmers. I would love to hear more from and relatives.
